A webinar entitled Refining of the Future was jointly organized by Department of Chemical Engineering, Manipal University Jaipur and Indian Chemical Council on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 (12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.). Mr Abhijit Pal, Senior Manager (Petrochemicals) at Honeywell UOP was the eminent speaker on the occasion. Around 100 participants from within and outside MUJ registered for the live event.
In his talk, Mr. Abhijit Pal highlighted the relevance of petroleum refining and the recent developments in the area. He emphasized on the concept of “Crude to Chemicals” which may significantly reduce the carbon footprint. Most of the industries have already started working in the area and are targeting zero carbon discharge. Since the availability of crude oil is predicted to decrease, renewable sources of energy to meet the rising demand of fuel and the potential of plastic recycling was also discussed. Additionally, in line with Industry 4.0., an integration and scope of Computer Science with Chemical Engineering was also deliberated.
Overall, the event was a successful event and was informative especially for young engineers. Based on the recent trends and demands of chemical industry, this event would enable them to decide on the career pathway accordingly.
